![]() Enter the Firestone Audio Spitfire DAC! Another tiny box of tricks from Firestone that will amaze. Aimed at those with computers who want improved audio or hi-fi lovers with that old CD player that refuses to die yet needs a new lease of life. For the budget conscious, this is a great upgrade and will have you reaching for your collection into the small hours as you rediscover your favourites. Latest MkII version of the Spitfire DAC has USB input too. If you don't need USB, save money and take the MkI version! Toslink and coaxial input flexibility is included on both models. The inclusion of usb is suggestive of a third use, being an upgrade to your TV/Sky box audio.
Above picture shows rear of MkII and differs from the MkI as the usb input is visible. Whatever your needs, this is a great little box from Firestone Audio that is getting great reviews (Hi-Fi News in 2009) and will find a place to call home somewhere in your system. Black faceplate. |

| Rating: Good Comments: A great sounding device. It beats hand down V-dac and others. Fairly bright, never offending anyway. Submitted by: goose on 25/11/2010 19:57:29 |
| Rating: Good Comments: After reading a number of product reviews for various DAC's between £100-£600, I decided to treat my 2 month old NAD C545BEE CD Player to a separate DAC. I shortlisted the Arcam rDAC, The Cambridge Audio DacMagic, and the Firestone Audio Spitfire + its Supplier Power Supply. All had What HiFi 5 star reviews in 2010, but the Firestone Spitfire cost quite a bit less, so I decided to give it a go. I telephoned Audio Elevation in Doncaster, the Company which deals in Firestone Audio products in the UK, and spoke to Darren. He is a real revelation and a mine of expert information on HiFi, including DAC's!! I decided to buy the Firestone Audio Spitfire DAC, along with the upgraded Firestone Audio Supplier Power Supply. Royal Mail Special Delivery was included in the price. I received the items the next day, both beautifully packed and in their own excellent dedicated boxes. I also bought a 1.5m Audioquest Coaxial Cable to link the NAD CD Player to the Firestone DAC. The Firestone DAC comes with a very good quality phono interconnect to link the Firestone DAC to the HiFi Ampplifier - in my case a nearly new NAD C355BEE ( a Superb Amp for the money in my view.) I set it all up without hitch, and was rewarded with a superb sound!! I listen to Classical Orchestral and Choral Works, and also Cathedral Organ. The sound is rich and warm, but also clear and focussed. The treble and Bass frequencies are there, as is the midrange, but there is no undue emphasis on any one frequency. I am delighted with the sound produced and for the modest financial outlay the results in my opinion are little short of a sonic spectacular!! Buy The Firestones with Confidence from an oustanding seller!! Rev. David Moss, Whitby, N. Yorkshire. Submitted by: David Moss on 27/02/2011 22:43:39 |
