![]() The Arezzo has been designed to outperform any other turntable at anywhere near its price and has many unique features. It also looks really good and is covered by a 24 month comprehensive guarantee. Everyone who hears the turntable has been amazed by the sound quality - it really does sound special. 7 day money back guarantee if you're not happy. Read on but do it fast! Built in upgradability - the plinth is machined ready to accept the 'Kinetic Drive' mod consisting of a precision balanced flywheel / pulley assembly that sits next to the motor. The 'Duo-Drive' pulley has an extra groove at the bottom to drive this flywheel. The Kinetic Drive mod is simple to fit yourself.
Picture above shows kinetic upgrade - don't be fooled by it's simple looks... The second upgrade is to the motor. The motor has a four wire feed from the control box, so when the High Current Power Supply is used instead, there is no rewiring needed to the motor - it is simply a case of unplugging the motor from one psu and plugging it into the other. So, that's two upgrade paths you can follow. Different arms (initially optimised for Rega arms) and a multitude of cartridge possibilities make this a very versatile vinyl solution.
Above picture shows HCPS (large unit) power supply upgrade. Smaller unit is standard power supply unit. As you'll see from our options, add the flywheel and your turntable becomes the Arezzo Kinetic. Go on to add the HCPS (power supply) as well as the flywheel and it becomes the Arezzo Ultra spec. Note that the way to get the most for your money is to go straight for the Ultra (most customers do) as you get the Mega Cover acrylic lid and the Arezzo Isolation Platform in jet black acrylic included (269 normal price for them both) for just 101 extra. Summary. * Arezzo turntable (basic) GBP699.00 * Arezzo Kinetic turntable (basic plus kinetic drive flywheel/pulley upgrade fitted) GBP1148.00 * Arezzo Ultra turntable (as Kinetic plus High Current Power Supply, Isolation Platform and Mega Cover GBP1698. Just a quick review at the moment...
We looked at the SRM turntables a while ago. We then started to note what the reviews (Hi Fi+ did a stunner) and forums said about them. We also noticed that no one had a bad word to say about the man behind SRM, Stuart Michell.
So we got in touch and, yes, he's a really nice guy. That's only half of the story though. He's passionate about the Arezzo turntable, the design, build, in fact all aspects of it. He's determined that is should be the best you can buy for reasonable money and still outperform turntables costing far more.
Onto looks. This is a great looking design. Put the Mega Cover on and it looks like a piece of art in a display case or a scientific precision instrument to be kept away from tinkering hands.
We then took a listen. And not in perfect surroundings either (those active speakers sound a bit tired to me Stuart!). Still, enough to see that precision continues when it comes to the sound. Rock solid timing, good bass levels., a nice musicality to it etc. But that's just the basic Arezzo. Add the flywheel and it gets even better. Add the upgraded power supply (you've then got the Arezzo Ultra spec) and your toes just can't stop tapping! The upgrades are really worth it if you can stretch to the initial outlay.
If not, what we have is a fine package with distinct upgrade paths for the future, reliability and solidity built in, good supply/availability and a nice guy running the show too.
And this was going to be a short review. I just couldn't help myself - it's that good.
SRM offer a 7 day money back guarantee on direct sales. We're happy to give that too as we don't think it's coming back once you've got it up and running.
This is one to really enjoy and, if you've had an "ordinary" turntable until now, this one will open your eyes (and ears) and you'll not go back to the mainstream brands again. Why would you when it sounds this good?
